EXGAE - SGAE

A couple of days, one of the blog readers asked me the following question by email.

I heard today that there is a call EXGAE advice that advises and brings lawsuits against the SGAE. What do you think about this? Do you think you can grow these initiatives?

About EXGAE, I think that is an extraordinary entrepreneurship, which has come to cover a very specific gap in legal services sought by society.

As you know, the SGAE is a private entity that covers a vast spectrum of cultural activities in Spain. Is present in every electronic trade, in every bar, hotel, movie theaters and is able to affect a large part of multimedia devices that people use every day. This fact, coupled with the much improved management of revenue it receives for the compensation which the law, the nefarious explanations and statements that make their representatives, probably unfair tariffs imposed and, to deceive, the economic and social some of his most visible partner, has caused a number of viral movement (such as the Platform Todos contra el canon, the Google Boombing SGAE = Thieves, statements by Enrique Dans, etc.). that make it extremely unpopular.

Because "every human relationship creates legal consequences" if the SGAE remains as unpopular as many relationships and it becomes very necessary to create a counterweight, with the public, of course rise as protector of justice. In fact, it remains more an office specializing in lawsuits against certain actions by the SGAE or its agents.

If I may compare, EXGAE is like one of those American firms specializing in "Right of bikers" or "Law of underwater treasure hunters. That is, a form (very legal) do business in a market with high demand and low supply specialized apparent.

As to whether they can proliferate these kinds of initiatives ... The offices specialized in Intellectual Property Law spent years dealing with these issues. Perhaps they lacked EXGAE called, but do the same. I do not see a EXGAE 2.
